Highland, Utah

Named for its landscape—reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands—Highland, Utah is located at the mouth of the American Fork Canyon, with the impressive Mt. Timpanogos to the east. Highland, was settled in 1870 but not officially incorporated until 1977. It now has a population over 17,000 and has a land area of 8.5 square miles. Highland had a 90% growth rate since the 2000 census and the average age is 22.  Highland schools are part of the Alpine School District.  High School students will go to either Lone Peak or American Fork High Schools.  There are several notable and unique neighborhoods or developments within Highland that are heavily wooded or newly developed areas with large luxury homes.

Beneath the peaks of Mt. Timpanogos and the Wasatch Mountain Range, those living here can easily access outdoor attractions and recreation, including Horsetail Falls, Silver Lake, the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway, Mt. Timpanogos Cave, mountain biking, cross country skiing and other sites and activities in the local canyons.

Nearby Utah Lake, Deer Creek and Jordanelle reservoirs are ideal for recreational boating, water skiing, jet skiing and any other water sports. The Provo River is a renowned fly-fishing location and flows through the majestic Provo Canyon. During the winter months residents are well within reach of world-class skiing at several nearby resorts, such as Robert Redford’s famous Sundance Ski Resort, as well as Snowbird, Alta, Solitude, Brighton, The Canyons, Deer Valley and the Park City Mountain Resort.

Additional attractions can be found in the bustling capital city of Salt Lake City, less than an hour away. Connoisseurs of the arts enjoy having quick access to Salt Lake’s Capital Theater, the Leonardo Museum, and Abravanel Hall and the Utah Symphony.  Other attractions include Temple Square and the world famous Tabernacle Choir, The Utah Jazz basketball team and the Clark Planetarium to name just a few.  Fine dining experiences can be found at many top-rated restaurants, all a part of the cosmopolitan atmosphere in Salt Lake City.
